Three Things that made me happy

Derrick: Taking a nap
Jeremy: Getting lots of things done at work, delegating well

Rooms for my soul

A few years ago I read St Teresa of Avila's powerful "The Interior Castle". It took me a long time to get a good feel for the book, as it was written in 1577 and she lived inside a specture of religion that has much more guilt and Angst than any I have experienced. But at the very end, I found my entry way. She talked about making rooms in your soul for God to spent time in, and nurting these rooms. This seemed so powerful to me that I have been meditating on this for the last 4 years or so, building and nurting different rooms for reflection, meditation, relaxation and places to feel in the presence of God. So far my main rooms are a library/study, a tatami room, a little chapel in the woods and a quiet indoor pool

Who am I at work?

I have been very worried that I am out of balance at work.  My belief is that if Derrick, Jeremy and Ryan are all coming out in healthy fashions I will be a good boss and held patients with their mental illness.  But I have noticed that I have been bringing mainly 2 parts of me, and only parts of those parts.  I noticed that the professional, teacher side of Jeremy Gleed and the instigating side of Derrick were my most common roles at work.  I have been trying to bring more of Ryan, the side who connects deeply and loves long conversations, but this side has clearly not been nurtured in a long time and I will need more time.

Today at work, 9/30/14

Negotiated the beurocracy to get one of our patients to a med psych hospital that will better keep her alive

Led my daily meeting

Opened up a bed for a very psychotic young lady in the community

Last minute got a patient safety planned and back to community

Made sure patient throwing cups got the ativan he needed to calm down

Helped a new depressed patient feel more comfortable in a place filled with people talking to themselves

And enjoyed Pizza Day with the patients

Charting mistake of the day

A large part of my job is reading everyone else's charting and summarize it for the rest of the staff in the morning meeting. We are all overworked and most of us don't love having to write on every patient. So it shouldn't be a surprise that I read some pretty interesting sentences. This was my favorite of the day. "37 year old man presenting for med management...he has a twin aged 14 years old and they both live with his ex-girlfriend" I think he meant "twins" instead of "twin"

Three things that made me happy 9/29

Derrick: Bought super stace the book she was half way through, made her night
Ryan: Good day at work
Jeremy: walked to work and back

Review of Fresh Air's Terry Gross's Interview with Girl's Lisa Dunham

Derrick: While riding in Audre Lorde today with Super Stace on my way to Costco to buy 8 things for $90 we listened to my all time favorite radio thing of all things, which is Fresh Air. She was interviewing Hannah from Girls and Hannah was awesome of course. I listened to the first 5 minutes and minutes 42-50 which were also awesome. Maybe she was talking about other things other than Girls, but it didn't really matter because she couldn't really do anything that isn't awesome.

Jeremy: Why is she famous?

Ryan: I don't get it. She is normally funny, right?
Today at Bridges

someone attacked Guillermo.  No one got hurt

I finally won a court case!

I consulted with my old boss about a very difficult case

My favorite schizophrenic said "things would be different if I wasn't married.  Not sure if it was a threat or a                                                                       pick up line

One of my favorite employee's said she might have to quit

I said good bye and good luck to an 18 year old schizoaffective patient who is doing much better

I trained one of my interns in group

And I still got home by 6:00!

Fact of the day: Charlie Brown's father was a barber.

Three things that were difficult today

Derrick walking to work, eating well
Ryan taking a risk, testifying for court
Jeremy learning about outsider art, preparing a family for potential electroshock therapy

“Life is difficult. This is a great truth, one of the greatest truths. It is a great truth because once we truly see this truth, we transcend it. Once we truly know that life is difficult-once we truly understand and accept it-then life is no longer difficult. Because once it is accepted, the fact that life is difficult no longer matters.” ― M. Scott Peck

Where is the count?

Super Stace and I moved to our new apartment last week, which is awesome by the way. Yes, I realize most people my age long ago bought a house, but I believe in baby steps. While unpacking and buying new things for the house, I realized I haven't noticed any traces of my imaginary friend, the count. He has followed me through three different apartments in chicago, one in Yakima, once in Bothell WA, another apartment in Seattle, a little house on Vancouver Island, then a house and apartment back in Yakima. Yet somehow he seems to have gotten lost. I do worry about my count. You here that countie, please come home

thee things that made me happy 9/28/14

Derrick: Playing with Roman, Ollie and Ureel kids at the church dinner Ryan: seeing old friends, hope for a more connected future Jeremy: Getting so much accomplished in setting up the new house-including decorating

Psychopath Test-

Read This is a story about a girl. While at the funeral of her own mother, she met a guy whom she did not know. She thought this guy was amazing, so much the dream guy that she was searching for that she fell in love with him immediately. However, she never asked for his name or number and afterward could not find anyone who knew who he was. A few days later the girl killed her own sister. Question: Why did she kill her sister? Answer: She reasoned that if the guy appeared at her mother's funeral, then he might appear another family funeral. If you answered this correctly, you think like a psychopath. This was a test by a famous American psychologist used to test if one has the same mentality as a killer. Many arrested serial killers took part in this test and answered correctly.

Fact of the day

Hitler's favorite movie was King Kong.

What my life is like in the Psychiatric Ward

I am a licensed Mental Therapist. I work at a psych Ward named bridges I am the team leader My boss looks like this guy I work with a mental health therapist named Guillermo His spirit Animal is an Apache Helicopter Much of the time we tell each other facts, some even true and write Pre-Novels (r) I also work with an Occupational Therapist. She is from the south One of the psychiatric Clinicians is very politically incorrect. That is okay because he is old. I have two interns that I am "training" I spend a lot of time on the phone. I also spend a lot of time plotting Sometimes the patient's like me (this makes Ryan happy) Sometimes the patient's don't like me (this makes Derrick happy, and Jeremy feel like he must be doing good work) Most of the time I like me, which is an improvement

3 things that made me happy 9/27/14

1. Jeremy Gleed: Meeting the new psychiatric professor when I went into work on Saturday, building a future working relationship 2. Ryan Oliver: building this blog, feeling excited about the future 3. Derrick Fudge: Watching football, watching Texas A@M beat Arkansas

Dream I need to interpret

Hey Jeremy! I've been having crazy dreams lately! Are you still into dream analysis? The first one was kind of upsetting... More like a night mare. I remember being in a university-like setting at first. There were lots of unknown people around me, and suddenly something induced panic in the crowd and everyone started fleeing toward particular buildings that were understood by everyone to be safe. I didn't feel the same sense of panic, but knew eventually I had to find a place in one if those buildings before they were locked down. I was heading that direction, but at my own pace. I did start to worry when I realized how far behind I was....and then I found myself surrounded by huge half-dead snakes. I was able to run through them and dodge their venomous strikes because they were slow in their near lifeless state. I finally saw the crowd of people all gathered together in a group. They were below me, and I had to navigate very large steps (and snakes) to get down to their safe dwelling. I also noticed at this time that there were apple trees all around me that had dead apples on them. I woke up with a jump when a snake that was more alive than the others struck me. Isn't that the worst dream??? Seems very eschatological.. And then last night I had another weird dream. The only thing I remember was seeing myself running in a straight line, knowing someone was trying to shoot me with arrows. I was shot three times. Twice in the chest, and once in my lower back. I remember walking around with these three arrows in my body, worrying about the one in my lower back because I was pretty sure it punctured my kidney...lol Anyway, my guess is that I'm having stressful dreams because of other stressors in my life. Hope you are doing well!
